Broden called to order the Health and Public Safety Committee meeting
at 4:31 p.m. She introduced members of the Committee and proceeded to give the floor to the
presenters.
Update-Westside Quiet Zone,Eric Horvath & Tera Weigand,Public Works
Eric Horvath,Director of Public Works with offices on the 13th floor of the County-City Building,
stated, Along with me is one (1) of our Project Engineers who is the Project Engineer on the West
Side Quiet Zone project. She will do the presentation.
Tara Weigand,Project Engineer with offices on the 13th floor of the County-City Building, stated,
This map (referencing a slide of a presentation which is available in the City Clerk's Office)just
has the project locations. There are actually three(3)quiet zones within the West Side Quiet Zone.
To the east is the East Side Quiet Zone and between that are all grade-separated crossings where
there are currently no train horns sounding. So by establishing these quiet zones, we would
essentially have a quiet zone throughout the entire City. These three (3) quiet zones encompass
three (3) different railroad companies. They are Norfolk Southern which is in the blue, Canadian
National in the yellow and NICTD in the red. We are working with our consulting engineer to go
through this process, develop design concepts and coordinate with the Federal Railroad
Administration and the railroad companies.
INTEGRITY1 SERVICE1 ACCESSIBILITY
JENNIFER M.COFFMAN BIANCA L.T IRADO JOSEPH R MOINAR
CHIEF DEPUTY/DIREcrrOR OF OPERATIONS DEPuTy/DIREOFOR OF Poucv ORDINANCE VIOLATION CLERK
EXCELLENCE I ACCOUNTABILITY I INNOVATION I INCLUSION I EMPOWERMENT
455 County-City Building 1 227 W.Jefferson Blvd.I South Bend,Indiana 466011 p 574.235.92211 f 574.235.9173 1 www.southbendin.gov
