P.4inutes of the previous meetinJ were read and agprovcd. Claims from the following suppliers in the amount of �758.43 �^�ere approved and ordered paid, also payroll of the various departm�nts for the first half of PJlarch in the amount of �:21, 773.77. FIRE DEP�.�TiUI�1T - Chief Freeh present: Application for a position on the Fire vepartment was received from Clem J'. Pajakowski, and was ordered Placed on file. POLICE DEPl�RTiViEIVT- Chi ef Lan� present: The Chief submitted t�Ze report of the Traffic �ureau for the month of February, copy of �ahich was placed on fzle and a copy furnished each member of the Board. The Chi�f of Police submitted the report of t�e Police U�partment activities for the months oP January an.d �,ebruary, showing detailed report of all divisions o� this Department. A copy aras placed on file in the office of the Board of Public Saf'ety and a copy flirnis�ed each � member of the Board. A communication was received by registered mail from -��,�illiam A. PJlitchell, uiving the names of 26 residents of�outh Bend, asking that he receive favorabl� consideration of the Board in their appointment to the Police Departirient. This communication was attached to his or- igint�l application. Chief Lane submitted a report of an accident which occurred at Leland Avenue and Navarre Street, bet�veen car No. ll,operated by Of- ficers Roberts and Starr, and T�irs. Traffic Engineer Ernest l�iller submitted a copy of a letter ad- dressed to Earl Crawford, Chairman of the Indiana �tate nigh�ti�ay Com- mission, ou�Llining tne progress that has been made in the changes of traffic s�gnals on State High-r�ays and enumeratin� the mrork that is still contemplated and has not been coMpleted. `j'his communication is placed on file in the office of tRe Bo�rd of Publ.ic �afety, Police Dept. The matter of present status of Officer �ammer, who has been ill with heart trouble, was discussed t�rith tYie �hief, the Board having not- ified him on February lst that this officer should no�U be tilaced back on service after 60 da,ys absence until a eomrnunication �vas received from the Police Physician, �r. Pauszek, t:�at he is in �ood physical eondition to perform the duties of a police officer. �t was regul�.rly moved, seconded and carried that this time having expire D Pauszek b�e asked for a statement as to his condition. The Board ��ucted , the Clerk to remove him from the payrolZ as of Iebruary 6. The Board approved application for renewal of ttadio �tation licer�se which was forwarded to the Federal �ommunications �ommission, v`dashing- tozi, D. C. , over the signature of Police chief, L. J. Lane. A cor�munication was received �rom C. P. Flzckiger who operates Eckercl"s Drug Store at 136 5outh Nichigan �treet, as�ing that a load- ing zone be established in front of their sidewalk elevator on South �y�ichigan Street. This was referred to Traffic �n�ineer Niiiler for investigation and recommendation. ��pplication for a position on the Police Deaartrnent vras received �rom Don J.
