RESOLUTION NO. 3 n 6 2 -- ~~ <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />PUBLICLY COMMENDING THE CROSSING EDUCATIONAL CENTERS FOR THEIR GOAL <br />OF "IlVIPACTING LIVES THROUGH EDUCATION BY FOCUSING ON THE HEART AND MIND" <br />~~~~, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is proud to recognize that the <br />Boazd of Directors of The Crossing Educational Centers have established private alternative schools for <br />the hundreds of youth who struggle in a normal school environment; and <br />~~~, the Council notes that currently there aze Crossing Educational Centers located at: <br />The Crossing Cafe 1202 West Pike Street, Goshen Grades 9-12 <br />Music City Coffee Company 2930 S. Nappanee Street, Elkhart Grades 7-12 <br />Crossing of Middlebury 511 South Main Street, Middlebury Grades 9-12 <br />Crossing of South Bend 1820 South Michigan Street Grades 9-12 <br />Crossing of South Bend 526 W. Western Avenue Grades 9-12 <br />with additional locations in South Bend, Gary and Chicago, Illinois being currently pursued; and <br />~fz~eaa, the Common Council further recognizes that The Crossing also offers a "Crossing <br />Connections Adult Mentor Program" which provides positive role models for students who have specific <br />social, financial, spiritual or emotional needs; <br />~ The Crossing Educational Centers provide alternative programs for at-risk youth who <br />have struggled with schooling by offering a nurturing and encouraging environment which focuses on the <br />theme that "education addresses all aspects of a student's life", with all of the educational centers being <br />fully accredited by the Indiana Department of Education. <br />~o~, ~~~e~uo~,oxe, ~ cL xe~uZGunr,~ by the Common Council of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common <br />Council hereby congratulates each and every member on the staff, the Board of Trustees and in particular <br />Rob Staley for their vision, leadership, tenacity and determination by providing viable educational <br />alternatives for at-risk youth with the establishment of The Crossing Educational Centers. <br />Section II. The South Bend Common Council believes that the hazd-work, discipline, and <br />dedication of all of the individuals associated with The Crossing Educational Centers help fill a very <br />serious void for communities and neighborhoods where many of their youth have struggled in typical 9- <br />12 school environments, by offering an accredited educational program where at-risk youth are provided <br />with opportunities to learn and be educated so that they may become positive and contributing persons. <br />Section III . The Common Council wishes everyone associated with The Crossing Educational <br />Centers the very best in the yeazs ahead, and especially wishes to thank all of their teachers and staff for <br />locating in South Bend and dedicating themselves to help many of our at-risk youth. <br />~e`rek D.
