Inc., 13.16 City S'Vater Vdorks 11.65 <br /> FIRE DEPARTAdENT - Chief Freeh present: <br /> Matters pertaining to the operation of the Fire Department were discussed <br /> with the Chief. He was authorized to purchase 12 hickory chairs and it cost <br /> him �1.80 each, for use in the various fire sta-�ions. <br /> _ Applications for position of fireman vrere received from Robert C. Rickel, <br /> and Robert 0. Sriver, and placed on file. <br /> ELECTRICAL D�PARTMENT - Pdr. Qualls present: <br /> Mr. Qualls discussed vrith the Board, matters pertaining to his department, <br /> and advised that he �^ra.s now making the changes of traffic signals on Lincoln V�fay <br /> West and would continue until the work is completed. <br /> POLICE DEPARTMENT - Assistant Chief, Diedrich, present: <br /> Letters pertaining to the operation of the Police Department were discussed <br /> vrith the Assista.nt Chief. <br /> �YEIGHTS AND MEASURES DEPART�II�TT <br /> Mr. Burns submitted his report of the tivork of his department for the weok <br /> ending September llth, shoti•�ring 122 inspections made. This report is on file in <br /> the office of the Board of Public Safety. Idr. Burns reported that he had tested a <br /> considerable nLmmber of coal scales during the past tiveek, with State equipment, <br /> and was assisted by the State Inspec�or, G. Baltas. <br /> I�r. Hotivard Chambers was present and discussed with the Board the mstter of <br /> offering Police and Fire men a Salary Saving System, and requested the Board to <br /> authorize tivith the employees' permission, the deduction of' the premium once a month. <br /> After discussing the matter, it �n�as regularly moved, seconded, and carried, that <br /> the following letter be tivritten to the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company of <br /> Fort 'JVayne, Indiana: <br /> THE FItAI1CHISE LETTER <br /> The Linooln Zda�ional Life <br /> Insuranoe Company, Fort 1-►ayne, Indiana <br /> Until further noticQ, the ?dunicipal City of South Bend, By Board of Publie ti"lorks <br /> and Safety, South Bend, Indiana, agrees to handle your Salary Savings System for <br /> the benefit of our employees and members of their immediate families. ti��fe will <br /> honor pay-roll deduction requests made by our employees on account of policies <br /> issued by you to such employees and to members of their im�ediate far�►ilies. <br /> Pay-roll deductions made upon request of our employees and included in your <br /> monthly statement will be forvrarded to you promptly. <br /> It is understood that v�re may, upon ti^rritten notice to our employees and to you-- <br /> and that you may, upon written notice to us--terminate this salary savings system <br /> as a whole if' the same is not accepted by or continued by a sufficient ntunber of <br /> our employees to justify its continuance. In the event of such discontinuance, the <br /> payment of premiums thereafter shall be a matter of accounting directly betw�en you <br /> and each insured. It is also our understanding that any e:nployee may voluntarily <br /> diseon�inue the Salary Savings System and direct a discontinuance of pay-roll de- <br /> ductions. <br />
