M. All members v�ere present. <br /> Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. <br /> Requisitions in the Fire Department numbers 03482 to 03488, <br /> inelusive , and in the Police Department numbers 136 to 145, inolusive, <br /> were approved. Claims in the amount of �1,087 .99 , from the folloti�in� <br /> suppliers, were approved and ordered paid, also payroll in the Poliee <br /> Department amounting to �79.20. <br /> Business Systems, Ine. �12.91 R. Acker 275:00 Peltz-Kaufer Co. , Ino. 3.50 <br /> The Clinio 100.00 City �`Jater i'lorks 36.63 <br /> Bruggner' s Ne�as Corner .75 City 1Yater Works 446.67 <br /> FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present: <br /> Matters pertaining to the operation of the Fire Department tiRere <br /> discussed with the Chief. <br /> The Chief requested the privilege of purchasing two tires for <br /> No. 3 Hose House engine and also tv�o hundred feet of 1Q in. booster <br /> hose, whiah were approved by the Board. <br /> Application for fireman vaas received from Alex Ma�ewski and ordered <br /> placed on file. <br /> POLICE DEPARTN�NT - Chief Lane present: <br /> A petition signed by a large number of residents in the vicinity <br /> of Calvert and 1Vliami Streets was presented to the Board, requesting <br /> that a stop light be installed at the corner of Miami and Calver� <br /> Streets, �thich is a through street from South .Bend to Mishawaka. This <br /> petition �vas referred for investigation and recommendation to 1�1ir. Qualls <br /> of the Electrical Department and Mr. �iller of the Traffic Bureau. <br /> A petition, signed by ten residents on East �enger Street in the <br /> 700 block, was presented to the Board, requesting that the employees of <br /> the South Bend Bait Company who park their cars in that block be <br /> requested to park them upon the property of the South Bend Bait Company <br /> �vhere it is claimed ample space is provided. The matter was referred <br /> to the ChieP of Police Por investigation and report. <br /> A petition, signed by four residents on North Johnson Street, was <br /> presented to the Board, requesting that the employees of the 0'Brien <br /> Varnish Company be prohibited from parking in Pront of their residences. <br /> The matter was referred to the Chief of Police for investigation and <br /> report. <br /> Continuation aertificate on bond of special poli.ce officer V`Jard 0. <br /> Harte was approved by the Board. <br /> Surety bonds in favor of Gustave Schuttrow and Fred Miller, <br /> re�ular police officers, in the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Co. <br /> were approved. <br /> �r. Humberger, who Formerly operated a private taxi cab stand at <br /> the northvrest aorner of hiichigan Street and Colfax Avenue, but whb on <br /> account of illness relinquished this stand, appeared before the Board <br /> and requested the privilege of re-establishing this stand beginning <br /> September 15th. Due to the fact that at this station formerly three <br /> private taxi cab stands vrere operated in the names of Mr. Humberger, <br /> Nr. Hartman and b2r. �dolfe, the Board decided to give Mr. Humberger <br /> the privilege of occupying stand at this point. The matter �ras <br /> referred to the Chief of Police. <br /> .
