Paint Co. .60 <br /> FIRE DEPARTMENT - ChieP Freeh present: � <br /> Matters pertaining to the operation oP the Fire Department were <br /> disoussed and the Chief requested privile�e of purchasing a new <br /> battery for the Assistant Chief' s Rockne car, also two additional <br /> tannia acid sets for use in the Fire Department. The Board authorized <br /> him to make these �urchases. <br /> Letters of reoommendation in favor of Marshall Witt were received <br /> from A. L. May, Jaok Taylor and Earl Hollis. These were ordered placed <br /> on file with .the original applioation. <br /> Applications for position as Pireman were reoeived from Charles <br /> Lyons, Edmund Leo Smolka and George S. Toth, Jr. , which were ordered <br /> placed on Pile. <br /> ELECTRICAL D�.'ARTMEIJT - Mr. Qualls present: <br /> � <br /> Matters pertaining to the operation of the Eleotrical Department <br /> were disaussed with Mr. Qualls. <br /> pp.LIGF�DEPARTIV�NT - Chief Lane Present: � <br /> Mr. T. E. goontz of the South Bend Dowel �Jorks appeared before <br /> the Board in rePerenae to the traffic situation at Main Street and <br /> Indiana Avenue where Main Street was recently established as a through <br /> street. He called the Board' s attention to hazards which have <br /> developed by holding the east and west traffic at this point and <br /> urged that a traffic light be installed at this intersection. He <br /> suggested that traffic .light on Lafayette Street at Tutt, which is <br /> seldom being used, might be placed at this point, or the traPPic light <br /> at Indiana gvenue and I�iehigan Street be transferred to this inter- <br /> section. The matter was fully diseussed and rePerred to Mr. Quall� for <br /> investigatio� and reoommendation. <br /> Chief Zane requested �he privilege of purchasing four sets of <br /> shot gun loaks for installation in police cars at a cost of $10.00 per <br /> set. The Board authorized the purchase of this equipment. <br /> Applioationsfor position on the Police Uepartment were received <br /> from Edmund l�orasz and George Hozow, which �ere ordered plaoed on file. <br /> V�EIGHTS & MEASURES DEPARZ'B�ENT - Mr• Burns present: <br /> Mr. Burns submitted his report Por the week ending August 22nd, <br /> showing total number of insgeotions made of 267.
