26 � � �dEETING June 22, 1936 � � � Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety v�as held on Nionday, June 22, 1936, at 9:00 A. �i. r�].1 meMbers v�ere present. Minutes of the previous meetin� v�rere read and approved. Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 2 to 19, inclusive, and in the Fire Department numbers 03416 to 03423, inclusive, were approved. Claims in the amount of �205.24, from the Pollowing suppliers, were approved and ordered paid, also payrolls in the amount of �17,125.I4 of the various departments. Z}Zeyer R� Son .91 Business Systems, Inc. 13.10 Sh-en Polish Co. 10.50 Hibberd Printing Co. 17.50 F�RE DEPARTII�NT - Chief Freeh present: PJlatters pertaining to the operation of the Fire Department were discussed with the GhieP. He reported that he had had several calls from outside of to�rn f'or grass fires, but, aeting on former instructions from the Board, the department v�ould not respond, although he made personal investigation of the seriousness of the reports. He also reported that several residents outside of the City had made arrangements with an Insuranee Company for the department to respond to calls from them with the understanding that the Insuranoe Company would pay the City �25.00 for eaeh of such calls. This arran�e- ment was endorsed by the Board and the Chief instructed to encourage the plan. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present: Tulatters pertaining to the operation Qf the Electrical Department were discussed and �Fr. �ualls reported that he wished to plan to attend the Electrical Convention in New York the last of August and the Board authorized him to make such arrangements and the City would pay his reasonable expenses. ti�EIGHTS & ��EASURES DEPARTP:2ENT - l�{Zr. Burns present: Iplr. Burns submitted report of the operations oP his department for the week ending June 20th, shovring a total number of inspections of 384. The report �as ordered placed on file. Heport oP Thomas B. Pauszek, City Surgeon, f or the services rendered police and firemen during the month of i:�ay ��as submitted to the Board and ordered placed on file. The report indicates that the expense to the City for these services of a personal nature would amount to ��45.00. Communication was received from Harry E. Bolt, General Chairman of the South Bend Civic Saf ety Council, commendino the Board for the manner in which the traffic violations in the City are being handled. Commu- nication cJas ordered placed on file. POLICE DEPARTMENT - ChieP Lane present: The Chief submitted his recommendations for chAnges in budget for 1937 , as requested, which tivill be follovred in makin� up the budget for that department. He also submitted a detailed report of the condition of the police cars and motorcycles. Surety bonds in favor of Captain Charles VanDusen and Charles J.
