He reported that he had had several calls <br /> from outside of to�rn f'or grass fires, but, aeting on former instructions <br /> from the Board, the department v�ould not respond, although he made <br /> personal investigation of the seriousness of the reports. <br /> He also reported that several residents outside of the City had <br /> made arrangements with an Insuranee Company for the department to <br /> respond to calls from them with the understanding that the Insuranoe <br /> Company would pay the City �25.00 for eaeh of such calls. This arran�e- <br /> ment was endorsed by the Board and the Chief instructed to encourage the <br /> plan. <br /> ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present: <br /> Tulatters pertaining to the operation Qf the Electrical Department <br /> were discussed and �Fr. �ualls reported that he wished to plan to attend <br /> the Electrical Convention in New York the last of August and the Board <br /> authorized him to make such arrangements and the City would pay his <br /> reasonable expenses. <br /> ti�EIGHTS & ��EASURES DEPARTP:2ENT - l�{Zr. Burns present: <br /> Iplr. Burns submitted report of the operations oP his department for <br /> the week ending June 20th, shovring a total number of inspections of 384. <br /> The report �as ordered placed on file. <br /> Heport oP Thomas B. Pauszek, City Surgeon, f or the services <br /> rendered police and firemen during the month of i:�ay ��as submitted to the <br /> Board and ordered placed on file. The report indicates that the expense <br /> to the City for these services of a personal nature would amount to <br /> ��45.00. <br /> Communication was received from Harry E. Bolt, General Chairman of <br /> the South Bend Civic Saf ety Council, commendino the Board for the manner <br /> in which the traffic violations in the City are being handled. Commu- <br /> nication cJas ordered placed on file. <br /> POLICE DEPARTMENT - ChieP Lane present: <br /> The Chief submitted his recommendations for chAnges in budget for <br /> 1937 , as requested, which tivill be follovred in makin� up the budget for <br /> that department. He also submitted a detailed report of the condition <br /> of the police cars and motorcycles. <br /> Surety bonds in favor of Captain Charles VanDusen and Charles J. <br /> Burns in the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company v�ere approved <br /> and ordered placed on file. <br /> The meeting adjourned at 11: 30 A.
