e <br /> Ordinance No. <br /> Bill No. <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br /> SEND, INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARIES FOR THE <br /> COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2012 <br /> STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br /> Indiana Code § 36-4-7-2 sets forth the governing law for the City legislative body <br /> to "fix the annual compensation of all elected officials". The law provides in part that <br /> such compensation may "...not be changed in the year for which it is fixed, nor may it be <br /> reduced below the amount fixed for the previous year". <br /> The last increase for the salaries of members of the South Bend Common Council <br /> was in calendar year 2007 when a 1.75% increase representing $291. The Council <br /> Members salaries have been frozen since 2407. <br /> The following ordinance sets forth a two percent increase for the Common <br /> Council for the 2012 calendar year. <br /> CCAo601 6e xel m, le by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br /> Indiana, as follows: <br /> Section I. The members of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br /> shall be paid from the General Fund the following annual salary amounts: <br /> Current Salary 2012_Sala <br /> r_y <br /> $16,898 $17,238 <br /> Section 11.
