77 <br />4 <br />Board met in regular session at 10:00 A.M. All members present. <br />Atty. Martin appeared before the Board representing Mrs. Emma W. Harlin, <br />and objected to water and. gas connections vihich had been ordered placed on Lot 23 <br />Keasey Street. The Board informed Mr. Martin that these connections had to be made <br />previous to a pavement being laid. <br />The Board approved of the following resolution. <br />R E S 0 L U T I0 1 <br />Resolved by the Board of Public Works of this City, that the Birdsell Mfg. <br />✓ gompany be ordered to disconnect their sewer connection with the Columbia Street <br />sewer at the south end of Columbia Street, and suggest that they connect with the <br />Fellows Street sewer which is larger to take care of the sewerage. <br />The.Clerk was instructed to notify Birdsell Mfg. Co. by letter. <br />Mr. tit• Sommerer appeared before the Board and requested permission <br />to out into Cedar Street Pavement to connect sewer and Water , which were -not put in <br />preivous to pavement vbicn was ordered in in 1914. The -Board instructed the Engineer <br />to grant permit, with understanding that Mr. Sommerer was to pay for repaving. <br />The Board instructed the Clerk to notify Chas. Jordon Company c ntractors <br />on the .Crockett Bldg. on Lafayette street to clean up building material viz lch has been <br />✓ obstructing the street immediately. Also to notify Jos. A. Weraal nski, owner_ of apart— <br />ment building on South Scott Street to clean up building material obstructing said <br />street. The time for obstructing the above streets for building ppurposes has expired <br />Complaint having been received by the Board in regard to lights not <br />being utrned on earlier, the Clerk was instructed to notify said Indiana & Michigan <br />Bl.ectria Company to turn same on earlier. <br />Permission granted the Central Union Telephone Company to open alley <br />North of Washington Street from the alley intersection west of Main Street and Forth <br />df Washington Street to the rear of the Crockett Bldg., a distance of about 100 Peet <br />The trench to be opened will be 200 wide and about 40" deep. This work is necessary <br />In order to burnish Telephone -service for the Crockett Bldg., <br />Petition fl led for a pavement on Liston Street from Birdsell Street to <br />Adams Street. Same referred to the City Engineer for investigation. <br />Gopy of communication sent to the Grand Trunk Western Ry. Company by the <br />City Atotnrye Eli F. Seebirt, was filed with the Board. <br />The following report was received from the City Engineer. <br />To the Hon. Board of Public Works, <br />of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />Gentlemen: <br />I have made an investigation of the Columba Street sewer as regjested <br />,,//by your Board. <br />This sewer from the alley south of South Street to the south end of <br />Columbia Street is only an eight (S) inch sewer and was constructed in 1894 and <br />assessed against the abutting property. Birdsellts dod not pay any part of the cost. <br />The sheds in Birdsellts lumber yard are all connected with down spouts <br />and these in turn I believe are connected with the Columbia Street -sewer. <br />I hap a talk with Mr. Byron Birdsell in regard to this matter and he <br />stated that nearly all of these down spiuts and sewers were clogged at the present <br />time and that the roof water runs over the ground surface and out to Fellows Street. <br />Ve ry t ruly,, <br />FREDERICK J.
