ORDINANCE NO. <br /> DILL NO. <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br /> BEND, INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARY FOR THE CITY CLERK <br /> FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2012 <br /> STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br /> The City Clerk serves as Clerk of the Common Council under Indiana Code § 36- <br /> 4-6-9 and maintains custody of its records. The City Clerk is also charged with <br /> maintaining all records as required by law; keeping the city seal; administering oaths; <br /> taking depositions; attending all regular and special meetings of the Council; and <br /> performing other duties as required by the Common'Council. <br /> The Common Council is required by under Indiana Code § 36-4-7-2 to fix the <br /> annual compensation of all elected city officers. <br /> Indiana Code § 36-4-11-4 authorizes the City Clerk to appoint "the number of <br /> deputies and employees authorized by the city legislative body". In the interest of <br /> fairness, the following ordinance sets forth the same percentage increase for the City <br /> Clerk as requested for the deputies and employees in the City Clerk's Office. <br /> r—)4 j*,, Xe d ojd.iywd by the Common Council of the City of South <br /> Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br /> Section 1. The annual compensation for the City Clerk of the city of South Bend, <br /> Indiana, for calendar year 2012 shall be and hereby is established at$54,938.00. <br /> Section II.
