National Statistics <br /> A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. <br /> Almost five children die every day as a result of child abuse. More than three out of <br /> four are under the age of four. <br /> ••° 31%of women in prison in the United States were abused as children. <br /> ••° Over 60% of people in drug rehabilitation centers report being abused or neglected <br /> as a child. <br /> °° About 30% of abused and neglected children will latex abuse their own children <br /> •e• About 80% of 21 year olds that were abused as children met criteria for at least one <br /> psychological disorder. <br /> •:° Abused children. are 25%more likely to experience teen pregnancy. <br /> Abused teens are 3 times less likely to practice safe sex,putting them at greater risk <br /> for STDs. <br /> *:® Children who experience child abuse&neglect are 59%more likely to be arrested as <br /> a juvenile, 28%more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30%more likely to commit <br /> violent crime. <br /> •s• Children who have been sexually abused are 2.5 times more likely to abuse alcohol. <br /> ':• Children who have been sexually abused are 3.8 times more likely to develop drug <br /> addictions. <br /> •°•• The typical child sex offender molests an average of 117 children,most of who do not <br /> report the offence. <br /> The rate of child abuse is estimated to be 3 times greater than is reported. <br /> Indiana Statistics <br /> Indiana ranks in the bottom 10 states for spending on child welfare <br /> •a• 4600 reports of abuse/neglect were made in St Joe County in 2009 (last reported <br /> year) <br /> • 2009 Statistics Statewide <br /> o 38 children died as a result of abuse or neglect in Indiana <br /> Eighty-two percent of the neglect cases and 51 percent of the abuse cases were <br /> caused by natural parents.Thirty percent of the abuse cases were caused by the <br /> mother's boyfriend. <br />
