National Statistics A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. Almost five children die every day as a result of child abuse. More than three out of four are under the age of four. ••° 31%of women in prison in the United States were abused as children. ••° Over 60% of people in drug rehabilitation centers report being abused or neglected as a child. °° About 30% of abused and neglected children will latex abuse their own children •e• About 80% of 21 year olds that were abused as children met criteria for at least one psychological disorder. •:° Abused children. are 25%more likely to experience teen pregnancy. Abused teens are 3 times less likely to practice safe sex,putting them at greater risk for STDs. *:® Children who experience child abuse&neglect are 59%more likely to be arrested as a juvenile, 28%more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30%more likely to commit violent crime. •s• Children who have been sexually abused are 2.5 times more likely to abuse alcohol. ':• Children who have been sexually abused are 3.8 times more likely to develop drug addictions. •°•• The typical child sex offender molests an average of 117 children,most of who do not report the offence. The rate of child abuse is estimated to be 3 times greater than is reported. Indiana Statistics Indiana ranks in the bottom 10 states for spending on child welfare •a• 4600 reports of abuse/neglect were made in St Joe County in 2009 (last reported year) • 2009 Statistics Statewide o 38 children died as a result of abuse or neglect in Indiana Eighty-two percent of the neglect cases and 51 percent of the abuse cases were caused by natural parents.Thirty percent of the abuse cases were caused by the mother's boyfriend.
