RESOLUTION NO. 1197 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION <br />RECOGNIZING JON R. HUNT FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT <br />COMMISSION AND THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />WHEREAS, Jon R. Hunt has been an employee of the City of South Bend since 1975 and in <br />his eighteen years of public service has served as Community Development Planner, Director of Community <br />Development, Administrative Assistant to the Mayor, Redevelopment Director and Executive Director of <br />Community and Economic Development; and <br />WHEREAS, Jon has been and continues to be a quiet, driving force behind a number of <br />innovative projects in South Bend that have been years ahead of their time and are now being replicated in other <br />parts of the state, including the location of Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium in downtown South Bend, the <br />reopening of the East Race Waterway, the neighborhood planning effort in several of South Bend's older <br />neighborhoods and the master plan for the Airport 2010 project; and <br />WHEREAS, Jon, with innovation, planning, leadership, and vision leveraged declining federal <br />funds through his vision of establishing various not - for -profit corporations to work cooperatively with local <br />government to achieve economic development, housing rehabilitation, downtown redevelopment and <br />neighborhood commercial district revitalization. Further, through judicious use of declining public dollars, Jon <br />has been able to leverage private investment through vehicles such as the Business Development Corporation, <br />Urban Enterprise Association, Housing Development Corporation, Center City Associates, and the <br />Neighborhood Business Development Corporation that Jon was a catalyst in forming; and <br />WHEREAS, no challenge is too great to discourage Jon. His long range planning, his eternal <br />optimism and his indefatigable nature keep the City of South Bend moving forward; and <br />WHEREAS, it is almost impossible to describe the dedication of Jon Hunt to his work. He <br />is honest, straightforward, dedicated, works incredibly long hours and is constantly striving to learn more, do <br />more and solve new challenges. He respects his staff and is respected by his staff, he welcomes suggestions <br />and ideas, fosters creativity and his door is always open to staff as well as to the public; and <br />WHEREAS, Jon is committed to making South Bend an excellent place to live. In order to <br />accomplish this he never forgets the public that he serves. He works to keep the public informed and builds <br />consensus to achieve not "the City's" plan but "the community's" plan. He is sensitive to both business needs <br />and neighborhood needs and works to share his vision and build coalitions of support. He encourages diverse <br />groups to articulate their goals and incorporates these goals into community consensus; and <br />WHEREAS, Jon R. Hunt was recently awarded the Ivan H. Brinegar Municipal Management <br />Award by the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns in recognition of his dedication and his <br />accomplishments. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT <br />COMMISSION, governing body of the City of South Bend Department of Redevelopment, that Jon R.
