The Redevelopment Commission has been asked to partner with the Board of Public Works in the extension of a water main and attendant sidewalk and street repair to allow for the redevelopment of a downtown property that includes the adaptive re -use of a vacant second floor space and a Downtown South Bend Inc. fagade improvement grant (see attached renderings). In addition to the redevelopment opportunity, this project will also ensure the retention of an existing downtown business — the Blarney Stone — as a result of a fire protections system to be installed in conjunction with this project. (see attached legal memo). The Board of Public Works has agreed to an in -kind contribution of labor and equipment (valued at approximately $10,000) and is asking Redevelopment to provide the materials at a cost not to exceed $10,000. The building owner will invest $17,000 for the fire suppression system and an additional $25,000 for fagade improvements Staff requests a non -to- exceed amount of $10,000 (based on a materials list and scope of work) to support this project.
