MAJOR CAPITAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br />FOR SEARS 2005 - 2008 <br />Activity Date <br />2005 125 000 <br />TOTAL $125,000 <br />Proiected Ongoing_Operatin~ Cost Impact <br />There are no additional operating costs anticipated. <br />Regional Aquatics Facility <br />$16,038,200 (2005, 2007) <br />This project consists of the acquisition of vacant land and construction of a 4,000 bather capacity <br />f~xnily aquatics center. This facilitywill serve as a major recreational-entertainment center for South <br />Bend and the surrounding area. The planning and construction of this facility will take two to three <br />years to complete. The City is currentlypursuing the possibility ofthis becoming a j oint prof ect with <br />the County. This would be funded through the issuance of a general obligation bond (either by the <br />City or by the County if it became a joint project) and thus would be subject to a <br />petition/remonstranceproces (allowing taxpayers to voice their level of support for this prof ect prior <br />to commencing with this major capital expenditure). <br />Activity Date <br />2005 $15,038,200 <br />2007 1,000,000 <br />TOTAL $16,038,200 <br />Funding Source <br />Park General Obligation Bond, <br />Facility Capital Revenues <br />Projected On oing_Operating Cost Impact <br />The projected operating cost ofthis facility, open from June 1 to September 1, and staffed by more <br />than 250 people will total approximately $1.25 million on an annual basis.
