What happens to those <br />taxes? Who gets them? Does it all go to the City? Actually, they get distributed among several <br />different governmental units. In South Bend Portage Township, where I live, there aze nine <br />different entities which are funded by my taxes. Here is how my property taxes aze distributed: <br />schools and $41.90 is for the City of South Bend. These dollars support important services from <br />educating our children, to maintaining the jail and courts, to welfare. In South Bend, property <br />taxes support the General Fund, Police and Fire pension funds, and Pazks and Recreation.
