South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—March 8, 2011
6. NEW BUSINESS
(A) South Bend Central Development Area
(2) continued...
Commission ratified maintenances at the
LaSalle Hotel.
(3) Proposal for environmental assessment
and engineering services. (Block bounded
by Western Ave, Taylor Street, Wayne
Street and William Street)
Mr. Sikora noted that Wightman Petrie
previously conducted a Phase I assessment
on a portion of the city block bounded by
Western Ave, Taylor Street, Wayne Street
and Williams Street(including the former
Fred's Transmission and a Gates auto
salvage yard) —northwest of Coveleski Park.
The city is interested in marketing this site as
part of a residential redevelopment effort and
has been meeting with potential partners in
this endeavor. Staff is now proposing to
complete a Phase I/II Environmental Site
Assessment for the entire redevelopment site
to identify recognized environmental
conditions, as well as obtain data for
confirmation that the subject site does not
pose any "excess risk" with regard to
residential development. In addition, we
have requested that all existing utilities and
associated connections to the residential lots
be mapped in order to support the
development.
Wightman Petrie has submitted a proposal to
provide environmental assessment and
associated services for a fee of$12,500.
Staff requests approval of this Professional
Services Agreement.
12
