South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -October 20, 2006
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
E. Airport Economic Development Area
continue ...
professor of Economics at Indiana
University. I support the initiative from
Charlotte Pfeifer and the residents from the
LaSalle Square area. It's exactly what a
number of us had proposed at an earlier
Redevelopment Commission, that, if the
Commission were going to incorporate
Portage Prairie into the Airport Economic
Development Area, then at the same time it
should also look at incorporating the LaSalle
Square into the same district. So, I think it's
a very positive development. We support it.
The organization I'm working with,
Community Forum for Economic
Development, sees as a key priority the
economic development of the inner city areas
and the downtown. We need to pay special
attention to that to make sure that everyone
benefits in the economic development of our
city.
MR. KING: I want to thank everyone here
today, and the larger group that attended our
earlier meeting. Often the Redevelopment
Commission, and the Common Council too,
do a lot of work and try real hard on things
and you wonder if anyone cares. So, it's a
joyful event when we have the public show
up and take an active interest in the things
that we're doing and encouraging us to do
things that will, in fact, better the
community. Thanks to all who are here
today and to your co lle ague s who were here
before.
24
