South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—June 14, 2011
4. COMMUNICATIONS
A. Communication from 97 taxpayers of South
Bend/Mishawaka regarding additional funding
for South Bend Animal Care and Control.
Mr. Inks noted that the Commission received the
following letters from Valerie Schey and Pam
Wesolowski in support of funding of the City of
South Bend's own animal care facility. At the last
meeting the Commission decided this was a policy
issue for the mayor and Council to decide.
Following a decision at that level, the
Redevelopment Commission could consider the
use of TIF funding for a new facility if that's the
direction the city wanted move in. The
Commission will continue to wait for further
direction from the Mayor and the Council. The
Communications from Ms. Schey and Ms.
Wesolowsi are included here in their entirety.
618111 E-mail; COMMUNICATION FROM 97 TAXPAYERS
Dear President Jones,
I am writing in regard to next Tuesday's (6114)
Redevelopment Commission Agenda (attached).
Respectfully, I would like to ask if you would be
willing to reintroduce agenda item 6 c. (4)from the
5124111 agenda to the 6114111 agenda. This issue
has been the source of on-going debate since 1996
Further debate will only lead to more adoptable
animals being euthanized due to the significant
space constraints at the current South Bend Animal
Care and Control(SBA CC)facility.
I am not alone in my desire to see this funding
request and this construction project move
forward. For you reference, I have attached a
citizens letter of request with the corresponding
signatures to support our request.
Due to the logistics of doubling the intake at one
6
