South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting— September 28, 2001
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
v. Continued...
Mr. Hunt stated that the Commission had put a lot
of time and effort into creating the plan for the
downtown. The plan calls for retail in those
storefronts and the Commission did not want to
entertain alternatives at this time. He asked if
Copiers Plus would be willing to lease the storefront
on a month -to -month basis, and move when other
accommodation could be made.
Mr. E. Skadberg, part owner of Copiers Plus,
reiterated that they were looking for retail space for
that part of their business. However, with respect to
the commercial part, they have very large
equipment to set up and it would be impractical, as
well as very expensive to incur the downtime
moving would cause. Mr. Skadberg said that they
would be interested in assignment of the lease for
the remainder of the existing lease -2 %2 years.
Mr. Mathia suggested a 1 year lease as a
compromise.
Mr. Stuzman said he thought a one -year lease would
be a good trial period for all concerned.
Mr. Smith said that he could agree to a 1 year trial
period if everyone kept an open mind about the
future.
Ms. Jones agreed that the Commission would keep
an open mind, and asked that Copiers Plus do the
same.
Upon a motion by Mr. Kahn, seconded by Mr.
Faccenda and unanimously carried, the Commission
approved the Lease Assignment for storefront in the
Leighton Plaza parking garage in the South Bend
Central Development Area for a period of one year.
(Former Precise Audio)
18
COMMISSION APPROVED THE LEASE
ASSIGNMENT FOR STOREFRONT IN THE
LEIGHTON PLAZA PARKING GARAGE IN THE
SOUTH BEND CENTRAL DEVELOPMENT AREA
FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR.
