South Bend Medical Services District <br />(1) continued... <br />services, Memorial's investment in the <br />expansion project will be in excess of <br />$ l OOM. <br />Ms. Greene acknowledged that there is an <br />affirmative recognition within the <br />Agreement as to the use of eminent domain, <br />as it may become necessary to utilize this <br />option to acquire some properties. It was <br />noted that no properties are currently on the <br />Commission's acquisition list related to the <br />Memorial Hospital Expansion Project. <br />Ms. Greene then introduced Mr. Ted Foti of <br />Memorial Hospital. <br />Mr. Ted Foti ave a background <br />g g <br />presentation on the hospital's continued <br />growth and outlined the need for expansion <br />which will allow Memorial to continue to <br />perform the services that they have been <br />entrusted with for the last 108 years. In <br />December 2001 it became apparent patient <br />demand was increasing and the hospital <br />would need to expand to provide additional <br />beds. A Memorandum of Understanding <br />(MOU) with the City was executed. With <br />St. Joseph Regional Medical Center's plans <br />to leave South Bend, Memorial's expansion <br />plans have accelerated. There are <br />constraints associated with the size of the <br />campus and the small amount of land <br />available in development area. A <br />reconfiguration of the campus is required, <br />including the obvious immediate need for <br />zoning changes which have already been <br />L8 <br />
