South Side Development Area <br />(2) continued... <br />Upon a motion by Ms. Jones, seconded by COMMISSION APPROVED THE MEMORANDUM OF <br />Mr. Blake and unanimously carried, the UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE SOUTH BEND <br />Commission approved the Memorandum of REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION AND ANCHOR <br />ASSOCIATES. <br />Understanding between the South Bend <br />Redevelopment Commission and Anchor <br />Associates. <br />H. Other <br />There was no Other business. <br />7. PROGRESS REPORTS <br />Mr. Rock reported the Main and Jefferson Project <br />went out to bid. Mr. Rock commended the great job <br />performed by the Legal Department, the <br />Commission, Mr. Bob Mathia and everyone else <br />involved in the project. <br />Mr. Schalliol reported on the concept site plan that <br />was in the newspapers and on television for the mall <br />site. The big news with this project is that the mall <br />disappears and almost equal square footage to actual <br />store space will be built in its place. The goal is <br />national retailers and within the next couple of <br />weeks there will be an announcement of who those <br />retailers will be. Staff is weeks away from a <br />Memorandum of Understanding or Development <br />Agreement. <br />Ms. Greene noted there have been a lot of questions <br />raised as to the mall concept itself, but, realistically, <br />indoor malls are very expensive. The tenants have <br />increased costs of interior maintenance, heating, air <br />conditioning, security, etc. Even though this will be <br />25 <br />THERE WAS NO OTHER BUSINESS. <br />PROGRESS <br />
