Tom
Bodnar rose to explain Bill 32-11 is the necessary change in local code to reflect the
consequences of SB 292 recently passed by the state legislature. He explained SB 292 takes
away"home rule" regarding restrictions placed on the possession of firearms. He expressed the
rather unanimously held opinion that this bill while enhancing individual rights compromised
public safety and the local governmenYs ability to maintain it. Tom said the bill before Council
was necessary for the City to stay in compliance with state law.
Following Bodnar's presentation there was brief discussion as to the merits of the state law
among Councilmember's. Finally Ann Puzzello moved and Karen White seconded a motion to
send the changes favorably.
There being no further business to come before the committee at this time, Chairperson White
adjourned the meeting at 3:45 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
/i c _L

Karen L.White, Chairperson
Health and Public Safety Committee
