South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —June 6, 2003
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Public Hearing
(1) continued....
headed. Taking these properties from Mr.
McNease substantially damages his building
and impairs his business. And you'd run out
of town a business that's been downtown
since 1968. We remonstrate against the
taking and ask you not to put these
properties on your acquisition list.
Mr. Hunt asked if anyone else wished to
speak.
JOHN FREIDLINE: Well, I don't know the
procedures here, but I question, exactly, are
ILI you required to supply us with your rationale
for taking the properties?
MR. HUNT: I'm sorry?
JOHN FREIDLINE: Are you required as a
committee or body to tell us why you're
taking the properties?
MS. GREENE: The Commission has filed a
redevelopment plan for the area and set forth
in their plan their proposed redevelopment
of the entire area. It's a general statement as
to how the property will be
redeveloped — whether it will be
commercial, retail, etc. That plan is on file
through the recorders office and available if
you come to the twelfth floor of the County -
City Building, Department of
Redevelopment. The finding as to blight
does not go to the individual properties
10
