South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting — June 17, 2005
Mr. Jack Olesker addressed the Commission.
The Sit & Knit Cafe is a different type of
yarn shop. The Sit & Knit has overstuffed
couches, televisions, movies, lattes and
cappuccinos available to its patrons. French
and Spanish classes are also sometimes
offered.
A second location of the Sit & Knit will soon
be opening in Michigan City. South Bend
will be a third location of the Sit & Knit
Cafe.
Mr. Olesker gave an extremely positive,
vibrant and enthusiastic presentation
outlining the potential of South Bend's
downtown area and his vision for the future
South Bend Sit & Knit Cafe. Mr. Olesker
respectively requested favorable action by
the Commission.
ILI Mr. Hunt inquired if macrame or needlepoint
would be offered at the Sit & Knit.
Mr. Olesker responded that the Sit & Knit
Cafe will focus only on knitting and crochet.
Instruction classes will also be offered for
each needle art.
Mrs. Olesker acknowledged that there is a
very strong and thriving needlepoint and
cross stitch store in LaPorte. In addition,
Erica's has two or three locations in the
South Bend area which concentrates
primarily on needlepoint and cross stitch.
The Sit & Knit will not be competing with
these already established businesses.
Mr. Downes commented that the concept of
Sit & Knit sounded great and requested a
copy of the business plan.
L 8
