Correspondence from Lee <br />Woodward, Board Chaiman, is included <br />with the Fetter of Intent for your review <br />which outlines the background of the <br />Christian Science denomination, the premise <br />of the outreach centers located in cities <br />throughout the world, their reasons for <br />relocation within the downtown and ho <br />they propose to -use the new space, including <br />hours of operation, layout and the <br />welcoming, contemplative study atmosphere <br />they wisb to create. Staff believes the use to <br />be one that will contribute to the diversity of <br />service and retail uses along Michigan Street. <br />The Reading Room operates as a retail <br />bookstore, but -is not intended to be <br />financially self supporting; i.tead it is <br />funded as a fixed budget item from the <br />finances of the First Church of Christ, <br />Scientist, located at 1237 N Ironwood, South. <br />Bend. It will be the responsibility of the <br />tenant to apply for any applicable nonprofit <br />exemptions for property tax assessment for <br />the lease interest. <br />Staff recommends accepting the Letter of <br />Intent and authorizing staff to begin <br />negotiation of a lease which will be brought <br />back to the Commission for approval. <br />Mr. Peczl o vsl i asked if they plan on <br />applying for nonprofit exemptions on taxes. <br />Ms. Laurent responded that the issue was <br />PE <br />
