South Bend Redevelopment Commi lion <br />Special fleeting —June 19, 2007 <br />2. NEW BUSINESS <br />A. Airport Economic Development Area <br />(1) confinned... <br />Mr. Wit V'er. That's the Sample -Ewing <br />Development Area Development Plan which <br />is being brought in and integrated into the <br />Airport Economic Development Plan. It will <br />still have some of the sane goals and <br />objectives. <br />Mr. Pec l wski : The strategies on D 14 of <br />this thing: development, revitalization, <br />improvernent, preservation. If we tale that <br />as are acronym, it's DRIP. It's a DRIP <br />strategy. How has that affected this region so <br />far? What I'm seeing is that we are cobbling <br />to a. golden goose an area that after fourteen <br />years is in danger of defaulting on its bonds. <br />Is that the case? <br />Mr. Inks: No. Sample-Ewing has becn in <br />the process of rebuilding for the past several <br />years. The Oliver ln.dustrial Park was part of <br />that effort and there was a Section 108 loan <br />obtained to help facilitate the acquisition and <br />demolition of that site. The Studebaker <br />Industrial Park is currently underway, and <br />while a fair amount of that project has been <br />clone with federal grants, we have also taken <br />out another Section 108 loan to facilitate the <br />demolition and environmental remediation of <br />the site and put in new infrastructure for <br />creation of a new industrial part. There have <br />been several other buildings over the last l <br />years that have been demolished in the <br />Sample -Ewing Development Area, all in <br />preparation for putting in new buildings, <br />creating new tax base and now jobs in the <br />inner city.
