REGULAR MEETING JUNE 13, 2011 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />, <br />Whereas IHSAA has become a voluntary, not-for-profit organization whose <br />mission is “…to provide wholesome, educational athletics for the secondary schools in <br />Indiana”. Its members include public, institutional, parochial and private high schools <br />throughout the State of Indiana; and <br /> <br />, <br />Whereas IHSAA’s motto is “Pure Spirit. Pure Sport” and divides the state into <br />three (3) Districts, with Region 1 including all of the counties in northern part of the state <br />to the southern borders of the counties of Newton, Jasper, Pulaski, Cass, Miami, Wabash, <br />Huntington and Allen ; and <br /> <br />, <br />Whereas on May 6, 2011, the IHSAA announced that Chuck Freeby of WHME- <br />TV and Radio in South Bend and a WNDU-TV Assistant, won the 2010-2011 IHSAA <br />Distinguished Media Service Award for District I for his many great contributions and <br />passion for Indiana high school sports; <br /> <br />, <br />Whereas the Common Council is proud to publicly recognize that Chuck Freeby <br />is a 1986 University of Notre Dame graduate who became the Sports Director for WHME <br />in 2004; who calls the “Game of the Week” play-by-play for high school football and <br />basketball as well as Notre Dame baseball; and who chartered the “Friday Night Flights” <br /> <br />and “Roundball Roundup” while at WNDU-TV for 17 years. <br /> <br /> Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />, <br />Indiana as follows: <br /> <br />Section I. The South Bend Common Council publicly honors and congratulations <br />Chuck Freeby for his dedication to excellence as the award-winning journalist who is the <br />th <br />26 Annual Indiana High School Athletic Association’s Distinguished Media Service <br />Award Winner for District 1. <br /> <br />Section II. The Common Council believes that Chuck Freeby’s outstanding <br />contributions, both on and off the air, have significantly contributed to enriching high <br />school athletics in South Bend and the surrounding areas. Chuck’s unique method of <br />capturing the spirit and enthusiasm of these young athletes is a truly a rare and special <br />gift, which other broadcasters wish to emulate. <br /> <br />Section III. The Council wishes Chuck, his wife, Diane, and their six (6) <br />children: Peter, Christopher, Mary, Jeanie, Rosie and T.J. the very best in the years <br />ahead. <br /> <br />Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br /> <br />st <br />s/Derek D.
