i <br />Personnel and Finance Committee <br />20(#7 South Bend Common Council <br />The April 9, 2007 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee of the South Bend <br />Common Council was called to order by its Chairperson, Counci! Member Charlotte D. Pfeifer <br />at 3:24 p.m. in the Council's Informal Meeting Roam. <br />Persons in attendance included Council Members Kelly, Varner, Kirsits, Pfeifer, White and <br />Puzzello; Public Works Director Gary Gilot, Building Commissioner Don 1=ozo, Martha Lewis, <br />Chuck Clark, Mrs. Kopola, Nancy Sulok and Jamie Loo of the South Bend Tribune and <br />Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br />Council Member Pfeifer noted that the Committee Members include Council Members <br />Varner, Kuspa, Kirsits, and herself as Chairperson; and that the Citizen Member of the <br />Committee is Diana Hess. <br />Bill No. 07-56 Scra MetallJunk Dealers Licenses for 2©07 <br />Council Member Pfeifer called for a formal presentation on Bill No. 07-56 which would <br />approve the issuance of a scrapljunk dealers/recycling operation license. <br />Charles E. Clark, License Auditor for the City of South Bend made the presentation. He <br />stated that the application far Steve & Gene's LLC located at 3109 Gertrude Street has been <br />reviewed by the Police Department, the Fire Inspection Bureau, Water Works, the <br />Department of Cade Enforcement and the Building Department. It received favorable <br />recommendations from all and the applicant meets the requirements of the local ordinance. <br />Mr. Clark stated that Steve & Gene's has been in business since 1993. <br />In response to questions from Council Member Pfeifer, Mr. Clark noted that he would be <br />receptive to calls from Council Members and members of the public who may notice fences <br />which may not be in the "proper state of repair". Inspections are done yearly and also when a <br />complaint is received. There was no input from the public. <br />Council Member Varner then made a motion, seconded by Council Member Kirsits that Bill <br />No. 07-56 be recommended favorably to Council.
