nnn Pollutant means dredged spoil solid waste, incinerator residue, filter <br /> backwash sewage garbage sewa eg slud�e munitions Medical Wastes, chemical <br /> wastes biolo�ical materials radioactive materials heat wrecked or discarded <br /> eQUipment rock sand cellar dirt municipal a�ricultural and industrial wastes <br /> and certain characteristics of wastewater (e.�. pH, temperature, TSS, turbiditv, <br /> color, BOD, COD, toxicity, or odor). <br /> 00o Pretreatment means the reduction of the amount of pollutants, the <br /> elimination of pollutants, or the alteration of the nature of pollutant properties in <br /> wastewater to a less harmful state prior to or in lieu of discharging or otherwise <br /> introducing such pollutants into a POTW. The reduction or alteration can be <br /> obtained by physical, chemical or biological processes, process changes or by <br /> other means, except as prohibited by 40 CFR Section 403.6(d); and shall include <br /> all applicable rules and regulations contained in the Code of Federal Regulations <br /> as published in the Federal Register, under Section 307 of PL 95-217, under <br /> regulation 40 CFR Part 403 pursuant to the Act, and amendments. <br /> �p� Pretreatment requirement s� means any substantive or procedural <br /> requirement related to pretreatment imposed on an industrial user, other than a <br /> pretreatment standard. <br /> c c Pretreatment standard (or standards) s�a�� means ���l�e prohibited <br /> discharge standards, categorical pretreatment standards or local limits. <br /> � Private sewer means a sewer which is not owned by public authority. <br /> sss Prohibited DischarQe Standards or Prohibited DischarQes means absolute <br /> prohibitions a�ainst the dischar�e of certain substances; these prohibitions_appear <br /> in Division 3, Section 17-8(c) of this Article. <br /> ttt Properly shredded garbage means the wastes from the preparation, cooking <br /> and dispensing of food that has been shredded to such a degree that all particles <br /> will be carried freely under the flow conditions normally prevailing in public <br /> sewers, with no particle greater than one-half(1/2) inch in any dimension. <br /> uuu Publicly owned treatment works (or POTW) means a "treatment works," as <br /> defined by Section 212 of the Act (33 U.S.C. 1292) which is owned by the City. <br /> This definition includes any devices or systems used in collection, storage, <br /> treatment, recycling and reclamation of sewage or industrial wastes of a liquid <br /> nature and any conveyances which convey wastewater to a treatment plant. <br /> �� Public sewer means a sewer which is owned and controlled by the public <br /> authority and will consist of the following increments: collector sewer, interceptor <br /> sewer, force main, pumping station. <br /> 12 <br />
