<br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,INDIANA, PUBLICLY
<br /> COMMENDING AND HONORING CHUCK FREEBY FOR WINNING THE 2010-2011 INDIANA HIGH
<br /> SCHOOL ATHLETIC AS50CIATION'S DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
<br /> ��e, in 1903, the first meeting of the Board of Control for the Indiana High School Athletic
<br /> Association (IHSAA) took place to "...give recognition to athletics as an essential factor in the activities of
<br /> the pupils..."at the high school level; and
<br /> .
<br /> ��e,�, IHSAA has become a voluntary, not-for-profit organization whose mission is "...to
<br /> provide wholesome, educational athletics for the secondary schools in Indiana". Its members include public,
<br /> institutional, parochial and private high schools throughout the State of Indiana; and
<br /> �� IHSAA's motto is "Pure Spirit. Pure Spof�t" and divides the state into three (3) Districts,
<br /> with Region 1 including all of the counties in northern part of the state to the southern borders of the counties
<br /> of Newton, Jasper, Pulaski, Cass, Miami, Wabash, Huntington and Allen ; and
<br /> ��e,� on May 6, 2011, the IHSAA announced that Chuck Freeby of WHME-TV and Radio in
<br /> South Bend and a WNDU-TV Assistant, won the 2010-2011 IHSAA Distinguished Media Service Award
<br /> for District I for his many great contributions and passion for Indiana high school sports;
<br /> ��ex� the Common Council is proud to publicly recognize that Chuck Freeby is a 1986
<br /> University of Notre Dame graduate who became the Sports Director for WHME in 2004; who calls the
<br /> "Game of the Week" play-by-play for high school football and basketball as well as Notre Dame baseball;
<br /> and who chartered the "Friday Night Flights" and "Roundball Roundup"while at WNDU-TV for 17 years.

<br /> Section I. The South Bend Common Council publicly honors and congratulations Chuck Freeby for
<br /> his dedication to excellence as the award-winning journalist who is the 26th Annual Indiana High School
<br /> Athletic Association's Distinguished Media Service Award Winner for District 1.
<br /> Section II. The Common Council believes that Chuck Freeby's outstanding contributions, both on
<br /> and off the air, have significantly contributed to enriching high school athletics in South Bend and the
<br /> surrounding areas. Chuck's unique method of capturing the spirit and enthusiasm of these young athletes is
<br /> a truly a rare and special gift, which other broadcasters wish to emulate.
<br /> Section III. The Council wishes Chuck, his wife, Diane, and their six (6) children: Peter,
<br /> Christopher, Mary,Jeanie, Rosie and T.J. the very best in the years ahead.
<br /> Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the
