j
:c,
PARCS—MAY 9, 2011
Committee Members Present: Ann Puzzello, Chairperson; Timothy Rouse, Vice-
Chairperson; Oliver Davis; AI Kirsits
Other Council Members Present: Derek Dieter; Karen L.White; David Varner; Henry
Davis, Jr.;Tom LaFountain
Others Present: Gregg Zientara; Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand; Phil St.
, Clair; Rita Kopala;Tony Trinka; Daryl McKinney
Agenda: Parking at LaSalle Park Gazebo
. This meeting was called at the request of 2"d District Councilmember Henry Davis.
Councilmember Henry Davis stated that he has received many complaints from LaSalle Park
residents complaining about cars driving through the park, through the playground and parking on
the grass. There were also complaints about trash left in the picnic gazebo and on the grassy
areas. Councilmember Henry Davis felt current ordinances were more than adequate to address
the problem if only the police department enforced them.
Councilmember Henry Davis said this is a persistent problem. Councilmember Dieter, a police
officer, defended the departmenYs efforts to the extent that resources allow. He wondered
whether the police OT budget could be directed to extra patrols in the park. Dieter said he would
work with Chief Boykins on the matter. Phil St. Clair head of the Park Department, acknowledged
the problem and said he would consult with Gary Gilot, Director of Public Works, to explore
remedies to access.
Terry Trinka, a nearby resident, brought pictures of the damage the park has suffered for the
Council to witness (Attached) Daryl McKinney, also a resident nearby, said the gazebo should be
moved nearer to the parking lot.
Councilmember Henry Davis frustratingly asked city officials what steps can be taken to fix the
problem.
Phil St. Clair said increased police presence, more signage, and barricades would help with lawn
traffic. The trash problems could be addressed with additional trash receptacles and/or different
types. Phil was asked to make a progress report on June 20, 2011.
There being no further business to come before the committee, Chairperson Puuelfo adjourned
the meeting at 4:20 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Ann zello,Chairperson
PARCS Committee
