1. Curtis Products - <br />Represented by Jeff McGowan CPA of Kruggel & Lawton, it was explained, the <br />primary reason Curtis Products failed to meet salary and employment projections was the <br />loss of a major customer. John Deere, a $6 million annual customer, took its business <br />overseas. Curtis efforts to find new business have resulted in recent employment and <br />payroll gains, boding well far the future. McGowan promised a revised CF-1 reflecting <br />these gains. <br />2. Bomar Plastics - <br />Bomar maintained that given the loss of jobs in the manufacturing sector in the <br />region, especially Indiana, their efforts to "weather the economic storm" should more <br />than constitute reasonable effort to substantially comply. In fact, machinery acquired as a <br />result of abatement has allowed Bomar to capture new customers. Bamar's supporting <br />data paints and optimistic future. <br />General Sheet Metal - <br />General Sheet Metal supplied testimony and supporting material that allowed <br />showed that they were only marginally out of compliance with payroll and number of <br />employee projections. In fact, all 113 local employees were retained and recent new <br />hires exceeded expectations. <br />4. Schaefer Gear - <br />Schaefer has endured and their efforts to prevail and grow. Significant setbacks <br />were the loss of Dana and Cummins as major customers who took their business off- <br />shore. In spite of the depressed, economy and the diff culty in hiring qualified <br />machinists, Schaefer has made efforts to manage overtime and seek out niche markets. <br />They feel they are doing all they can to comply. <br />5. Bowne - <br />Bowne defended a lack of compliance for both personal and real property tax <br />abatement. Bowne was represented by Jim Hahn, Vice-President of operations, Christine <br />Urbanski, Human Resources, and Rich Deahl, Attorney. Bowne originally projected <br />retaining 119 employees and hiring 19 more. Actually 81 were retained and 5 were <br />hired. Bowne supplied a 10 point defense of their efforts arguing any short falls were due <br />to external factors beyond their control. They also noted their efforts to remain a positive <br />force in the overall community. <br />6. AJW (A.J. Wright} <br />A. J. Wright was represented by Bab Arnold, V.P.
