<br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCILOF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
<br />TO AMEND VARIOUS SECTIONS OFCHAPTER 6, ARTICLE 1, OF THE
<br />SOUTH BENDMUNICIPAL CODE ADDRESSING PERMIT FEES
<br />AND THE DEFINITION OF PLUMBING CONTRACTOR
<br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
<br />On December 31, 1991, the City of South Bend and the County of St. Joseph entered into an
<br />agreement to merge their building departments; and further create the "Consolidated Building Board".
<br />In 1993, by Ordinance No. 8412-93 subsection 1, the Board created the Building Department as an
<br />enterprise fund.
<br />It has been determined that in order to maintain the enterprise fund, a fee increase would be
<br />needed as set forth in this ordinance.
<br />Now, therefore, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as
<br />follows:
<br />Section 1. Chapter 6, Articlel, Section 6-4(b)(1)(2)(7)(8)(9) and (10) shall be amended to
<br />read as follows:

<br />(1) The fee for permits issued for new construction and building additions shall be
<br />based upon square footage of such new construction or addition at the following rates:
<br />a. Residential: Ten cents ($0.10) per square footage for the first one hundred
<br />thousand (100 000) square feet and eight cents ($0.08) per square foot for each additional square foot,
<br />with a minimum fee of $20.00.
<br />b. Commercial: Twelve cents ($0.12) per square footage for the first one
<br />hundred thousand (100.000) sauare footage and ten cents ($0.10) for each additional square foot, with a
<br />minimum fee of $20.00.

<br />(2) Permits issued for all alterations, repairs, remodeling of existing structures over
<br />five hundred dollars ($500.00), fence installations, in-ground pool installations, communication towers,
<br />and utilities shall be subject to the following fee schedule:
