SPECIAL MEETING <br />MARCH 23, 2011 18 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in a Special Meeting at 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 <br />with Board Members Patrick D. Cottrell, Bruce BonDurant, and Laura Vasquez present. Board <br />President Juanita Dempsey and Board Member Eddie Miller were absent. Also present were Police <br />Chief Darryl Boykins, and Attorney Cheryl Greene. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13`h Floor County City <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />APPROVE FINDINGS OF FACT - CHARGE 2011 -02 — JAMES WALSH <br />On March 15, 2011, Police Chief Darryl Boykins filed Charges against Sergeant James Walsh <br />pursuant to I.C. 36- 8 -3 -4. Prior to the serving of the Charges 2011 -02, Sergeant Walsh read the <br />Charges and Disciplinary Action letter from Chief Boykins. On March 7, 2011, Sergeant Walsh filed <br />in writing with the Board of Safety an acceptance of the punishment of twenty -one (21) consecutive <br />calendar days suspension recommended by the Chief and stated he will not request a hearing. <br />Therefore, Mr. Cottrell requested a motion to accept and approve the Findings of Facts and the <br />Charges 2011 -02 as presented. Upon a motion by Mr. BonDurant, seconded by Ms. Vasquez and <br />carried, the Findings of Fact as presented were approved and signed. The Board of Public Safety <br />found that for his actions, Sergeant Walsh shall be suspended from duty without pay for twenty -one <br />(2 1) consecutive calendar days effective on a date chosen by the Chief of Police. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Cottrell declared the meeting <br />adjourned at 8:07 a.m. <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />�7 <br />Juanita Dempsey, President <br />i <br />Patrick D.
