REGULAR MEETINGSEPTEMBER 26, 2005 <br /> s/KathleenCekanski-Farrand,Council Attorney <br />Attest: <br />s/John Voorde, City Clerk s/Stephen J. Luecke, Mayor of South Bend <br />Councilmember David Varner, 1306 Clayton Drive, South Bend, Indiana, made the <br />presentation for this Resolution by first offering his comments and then reading the <br />Resolution in its entirety and presenting it to Mrs. Robinson, representative for the Sister <br />City of Arzberg. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />There was no on present wishing to speak to the council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this Resolution. <br />Ms. Robinson thanked the members of the Council for establishing this relationship with <br />Arzberg, Germany and looked forward to this new friendship and work deligently on <br />working on other Sister City relationships, in the sense that we can lean from each and <br />work together for a better future. <br />Councilmember Kuspa made a motion to adopt this Resolution. Councilmember Varner <br />seconded the motion which carried and the Resolution was adopted by a roll call vote of <br />eight (8) ayes. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3521-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> PUBLICLY HONORING SOUTH BEND SILVER <br /> HAWKS MANAGER MARK HALEY <br /> WHEREAS, September 2005 will long be remembered as “Sweet September” in <br />South Bend, Indiana, as the South Bend Silver Hawks captured the 2005 Midwest League <br />Championship with a 4-0 win over the win the Timberrattlers as the Hawks won the best <br />of five games in the championship series; and <br /> WHEREAS, the South Bend Common Council is proud to honor Mark Haley, <br />Manager of the 2005 Silver Hawks who skippered his young and talented team to win the <br />league championship; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawks Manager, Mark Haley, is a Granger resident and has a vast <br />amount of baseball experience having spent 13 seasons as a coach/manager in the <br />Chicago White Sox organization, including serving in 1991, 1992 and 1995 as the hitting <br />coach with South Bend when the Silver Hawks were a Chicago White Sox affiliate; <br />hitting coach with Sarasota in 1993, Hickory in 1994, Prince William in 1996, Winston- <br />Salem in 1997, 1999, 2001 & 2002, and Great Falls in 2003 and 2004; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawks Manager Mark Haley began is coaching career in the college <br />and university ranks serving as an assistant at the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers <br />(having been a member of the Cornhuskers’ 1980 Big Eight Championship Team) and <br />the University of Tennessee Volunteers; while serving as the interim Head Coach in <br />Knoxville for the 1987 season. <br /> Now, therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the <br />Common Council hereby congratulates Mark Haley, Manager of the South Bend Silver <br />Hawks for winning the 2005 Midwest League Championship. <br />Section II. The South Bend Common Council is especially proud to recognize the <br />management style of Hawks skipper, Mark Haley. Mark focused on getting the team “to <br />remain consistent”. This became a key and winning component of the South Bend Silver <br />3 <br /> <br />
