<br /> COMMENDING THE 2004-2005
<br /> UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME
<br /> FENCING TEAM FOR WINNING THE
<br /> NCAA COMBINED FENCING
<br /> NATIONAL TITLE
<br />Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is proud to
<br />recognize that the University of Notre Dame 2004-2005 Fencing Team won the NCAA
<br />th
<br />Combined Fencing National Title on March 20, 2005; to win the fencing program’s 7
<br />national title; and
<br />Whereas, the Council notes that the University of Notre Dame Fencing Team
<br />qualified 11 of the maximum 12 total entrants in the 4-day event, with this team being the
<br />st
<br />1 fencing program ever to win the NCAA title without the full allotment of fencers
<br />when they beat the Buckeyes of the Ohio State University Fencing Team 173-171, in
<br />the final rounds of the fencing bouts; and
<br />Whereas, the South Bend Common Council recognizes each of the players and
<br />coaches of the gold-medal NCAA University of Notre Dame Championship Fencing
<br />Team, namely:
