<br />Councilmember Ann Puzzello, 1247 E. LaSalle, South Bend, Indiana, made the
<br />presentation for this Resolution by first offering her comments and then reading the
<br />Resolution in its entirety and presenting it to the members of the Notre Dame Women’s
<br />Soccer Team.
<br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time.
<br />Randy Waldrum, Head Coach, University of Notre Dame Women’s Soccer Team,
<br />thanked the Council for the honor of this Resolution. He noted that these women not
<br />only won the 2004 NCAA Women’s National Soccer Title but also maintained and
<br />average GPA of 3.4.
<br />Councilmember Varner made a motion to adopt this Resolution by acclamation.
<br />Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried.
<br />RESOLUTION NO. 3412-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON
<br /> COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br /> BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY
<br /> COMMENDING SOUTH BEND FIRE
<br /> CHIEF ROBERT X. QUINN III FOR HIS
<br /> NEARLY 35 YEARS OF DEDICATED
<br /> SERVICE TO THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br /> BEND, INDIANA
<br />Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that Fire
<br />Chief Robert X. Quinn III will soon be retiring from the South Bend Fire Department
<br />after approximately thirty-four (34) years and ten months of dedicated fire service; and
<br />Whereas, the Council recognizes that Chief Quinn began as a South Bend Firefighter on
<br />May 25, 1970, a position he held until his promotion to Battalion Chief on February 22,
<br />1980; he was then promoted to Assistant Chief of Operations on February 17, 1992, a
<br />position which he held until his promotion by Mayor Luecke to Fire Chief on May 5,
<br />2004; and
<br />Whereas, Chief Quinn has provided very capable leadership in overseeing the South
<br />Bend Fire Department which is currently composed of 248 hard-working sworn
<br />firefighters and 7 non-sworn members, with a total Fire Department budget for personnel,
<br />capital and pension trusts funds of $25,176,895, while also maintaining twelve (12) fire
<br />stations throughout the city.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
<br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
<br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the
<br />Common Council hereby publicly thanks and commends Fire Chief Robert X. Quinn III
<br />for his 34 years and ten months of dedicated public service on the South Bend Fire
<br />Department.
<br />Section II. The South Bend Common Council wishes Chief Quinn and his wife, Connie,
<br />many years of camping, fishing and traveling adventures as they enjoy great times
<br />together with their children and grandchildren.
