REGULAR MEETING MAY 8, 2006 <br />department for their dedication and heroism which has gone above and beyond the call of <br />duty; and <br />Whereas? the Common Council further recognizes that the most distinguished <br />award which is annually given by the South Bend Police Department at their Awards <br />Ceremony is the “Officer of the Year” Award ; and <br />Whereas, the South Bend Common Council is especially proud to recognize the <br />2005 Police Officer of the Year, Corporal Galen Pelletier, a 10 year veteran of the South <br />Bend Police Department whose duties include being a Patrol Officer, Field Training <br />Officer and a Uniform Crime Scene Technician; and <br />Whereas, the Common Council would like to especially publicly recognize that <br />when Corporal Pelletier accepted the “Officer of the Year” Award early this year, that he <br />humbly dedicated the award to a fellow officer on the South Bend Police Department, his <br />brother, Bill Pelletier, who was on the department for just 16-months when he was shot in <br />April of 2005, in the line of duty while trying to arrest a suspect. <br />Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the <br />Common Council hereby publicly commends, honors and celebrates the dedication, hard- <br />work, and professionalism of the 2005 South Bend Police Officer of the Year, Corporal <br />Galen Pelletier. <br />Section II. The South Bend Common Council honors each of the 262 sworn <br />police officers of the South Bend Police Department who daily work to protect the lives <br />and properties of our citizens; and salutes in particular, Corporal Galen Pelletier, who is a <br />role model for all police officers throughout our nation. We are forever grateful and <br />fortunate to have such a fine person protecting and serving as a sworn member of the <br />South Bend Police Department; who with his fellow officers provide public safety <br />services on a 24/7 basis, and are daily striving to make our city a safer community for all. <br />Section III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />stth <br />s/Derek D. Luecke, Mayor of South Bend <br />Councilmember Varner made the presentation for this Resolution by reading in its <br />entirety and presenting it to Police Chief Thomas Fautz on behalf of Corporal Galen <br />Pelletier. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />There was no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this Resolution. <br />Police Chief Thomas Fautz thanked the Council on behalf of Corporal Galen Pelletier. <br />Chief Fautz stated that Corporal Pelletier dedicates numerous hours giving back to the <br />2 <br /> <br />
