Richard Powers, Community Policing Co-Chair, 574-235-9402 <br /> Cindy DeLeon, Community Policing Co-Chair, 574-245-6116 <br /> South Bend Weed & Seed Alliance to Present Children's <br /> Activity Book Awards <br /> The South Bend Weed & Seed Alliance, Inc. (SBWSA) in conjunction with the <br /> Community Policing Committee (COP)will reward students and teachers for <br /> participating in their second in a series of Activity Book design contests. The ceremony <br /> will begin at 1 pm, Friday June 1, 2007, at Holy Family School with SBWSA board <br /> members and community leaders joining in the festivities. Students will have their <br /> winning designs printed in the activity book, and will be presented with ribbons and <br /> certificates of appreciation for participation. Teachers of the winning classrooms will <br /> also receive a plaque for their efforts. In addition to pizza and plaques, all winning <br /> classes will be recognized at the bottom of each page in the book. Students and teachers <br /> alike will receive the first copies of the book with a total distribution of 3000 copies. <br /> The Community Policing Committee of SBWSA, led by co-chairs Lt. Richard Powers, <br /> SBPD and Cindy DeLeon, organized the contest, choosing A Super Hero" as the theme <br /> for this year's Activity Book. Children in grades 2-7 who attend school or church and <br /> reside in the Weed & Seed area, were asked to design a page for the book as a class <br /> project. More than 500 students participated in the project. <br />
