Page 3. <br /> Effective July 6, 2007 <br /> it Assistant Chief of Services (Replaces Asst.Chief Switalski in July) <br /> Battalion Chief Mark Nowicki has been with the South Bend Fire Department <br /> for 27 years. For the last 23 years he has acted as Battalion Chief of Training. <br /> Battalion Chief Nowicki has been an effective administrator in the training <br /> bureau. He has shown outstanding leadership and dedication to keeping all <br /> personnel trained in the newest and most effective safety techniques and <br /> equipment. <br /> Assistant Chief of Emergency Medical Services Bureau (Replaces Asst. <br /> Chief Magdalinski in July) <br /> Captain Stephen Cox is a former Army Medic and veteran of Desert Shield and <br /> Desert Storm. Captain Cox joined the South Bend Fire Department in 1993 and <br /> was promoted to Paramedic Lieutenant in 1997 and to Captain in 2003. Captain <br /> Cox has shown excellent leadership and professionalism and will bring fresh <br /> ideas to the EMS Department. <br /> Battalion Chief—Instruction Bureau (Replaces Asst. Chief Nowicki in <br /> July) <br /> Captain John Corthier was appointed to the department in 1979. He was first <br /> promoted to Captain in 1985 and then Capt. of the Instruction Bureau in 2002. <br /> During his career with the SBFD he has also served as captain of Engine #1, <br /> Public Education Officer, Paramedic, and Captain in the Instruction Bureau. He <br /> has worked diligently with Battalion Chief Nowicki at the Instruction Bureau <br /> and has great understanding of this position and the ability to effectively communicate and share <br /> this knowledge. <br /> Continuing in current positions: <br /> Asst.
