osoo rx gF
PEACE
1865
Office of the Mayor
News Release
May, 15, 2007
Contact: Janice Hall, Director, Human Resources, 235-9482
City Employees Make the Difference
Mayor Stephen J. Luecke has designated May 14 -18 as Employee Recognition
Week for all City of South Bend employees. The theme is "You Make the
Difference". This event is in conjunction with the National Public Service
Recognition Week which is set aside to honor men and women who serve
America as Federal, State and Local Government employees.
Throughout the week, acts of gratitude and appreciation will be expressed in all
city departments. On Wednesday, May 6, 2007, there will be an Awards
Ceremony from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Jon Hunt Plaza, with awards being
presented in the categories of Leadership, Community Service, Team
Accomplishment, and Distinguished Public Service Career. Management and
peers were asked to nominate a person in their department who they believed
exemplified outstanding public service. An added special entertainment is a
Karaoke contest resembling the popular "American Idol" show, with employees
being invited to display their talent for the fun of it.
"We are pleased to recognize the work that our city employees accomplish every
day to help South Bend grow and to thrive as a 21St Century City," stated Mayor
Luecke. "We appreciate and value their commitment to quality and to finding
new and better ways to provide more efficient and effective delivery of service to
our residents and visitors."
Many of the City's 1,200 plus employees work diligently without receiving any
recognition for their hard work and this week of acknowledgement is a way of
letting them know they are appreciated.
-30-
