Sample Street, South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br /> For Immediate Release <br /> Friday, February 9, 2007 <br /> Media Release <br /> South Bend Police Department Citizen's Police Academy <br /> How would you like to step inside our S.W.A.T. truck like you see on <br /> television—or examine a fingerprint under a microscope in our CSI laboratory? <br /> And the newest class addition presents the Child Dangers of the Internet and <br /> Computer & TechnoloAy Crime Overview. <br /> The South Bend Police Department is now accepting applications for the first <br /> Citizen's Police Academy in 2007. This will be the 26th academy session of <br /> educational classes offered to the public to promote an understanding and awareness <br /> of the duties and responsibilities of the South Bend Police Department. The next <br /> scheduled academy will run for 13 weeks, starting March 13t` and ending on June 5, <br /> 2007. All classes are on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:30 p.m. And it's free! <br /> General class topics include the department's community policing efforts, <br /> future plans, and an overview of the organization. The in-depth class participation <br /> includes interaction with officers from patrol, investigative, and communications <br /> areas. In addition, there will be several hands-on scenarios involving specialty unit <br /> demonstrations from the K-9, SWAT, and the Bomb Disposal Unit. Upon graduation, <br /> participants are also available to ride with an officer to see the patrol functions from a <br /> first-hand view. <br /> If you are a citizen who lives or works around South Bend and have ever had a <br /> question about the police department and would like to get feedback in a comfortable <br /> setting—this is the class for you.
