Luecke has announced the appointment of Michael D. Carrington to <br /> the Alcoholic Beverage Board. This board reviews local alcoholic beverage permit applications <br /> and submits its recommendations to the State Alcohol and Tobacco Commission for approval. <br /> "Mike's extensive background in security and criminal justice, and his outstanding <br /> integrity make him an excellent choice for this post," commented Mayor Luecke. "The City of <br /> South Bend is committed to building a strong economic base as we balance the needs of <br /> businesses with the welfare,health, and values of our community. We are also committed to the <br /> health and safety of our residents, and the Board's handling of issues such as underage drinking <br /> and public nuisance properties has a direct impact on the quality of life in our neighborhoods. <br /> Mike's thirty-plus years of experience as a public safety officer and consultant will be a unique <br /> asset to the Board, and I look forward to working with him to build a Safe and Healthy City." <br /> Mr. Carrington is a former U.S. Marshall for Northern Indiana, appointed by President <br /> Clinton, and has an extensive background in criminal justice, administration, and education. He <br /> served for fifteen years as the Director of Campus Security at IUSB, and as Adjunct Associate <br /> Professor of Criminal Justice in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
