 x
x
1 6S
NEWS RELEASE
Monday,July 31st, 2006
Contact: Mikki Dobski, Communications& Special Projects, 574-235-5855
Elizabeth Maradik, Community and Economic Development, 574-235-5870
The Scoop on the Monroe Park Ice Cream Social
There's nothing in the summertime (or wintertime for the true aficionado) like a big scoop of
melt-in-your-mouth ice-cream. The Monroe Park Neighborhood Association leaders submitted
an essay to "Edy's Slow Churned Neighborhood Salute"nationwide contest and won the grand
prize of a fully sponsored Ice Cream Social. One hundred residents of the Monroe Park
Neighborhood will come together to share in one of life's simple pleasures on August 5v' from 5-
6 p.m. at the corner of South and Carroll Streets. The Monroe Park Neighborhood was one of
only 1500 neighborhoods nationwide to win this grand prize.
The essay stressed all of the positive changes going on in the Monroe Park Neighborhood.
Neighbors are linking arms to make their neighborhood a safer, more enjoyable place to live.
Neighbors have recently participated in neighborhood cleanups, for example, and many are
volunteering their time to assist in the Monroe Park Neighborhood sign beautification project.
The sign, at the corner of Lincolnway East and Bronson Street, is being painted and some of
Monroe Park's green thumbed residents are busy planting flowers around it.
The MPNA leaders wrote to the Edy's contest, "As a fledgling group we appreciate every
opportunity to show our neighbors that life here can be fun and enjoyable . . . we'd like to offer
them fun and a chance to treat themselves and their families. We'd like to offer them Edy's!"
The ice cream social will not only provide a great way for neighbors to socialize and get to
know the Monroe Park Neighborhood Association, but will also enable them to learn more about
their neighborhood and how they can participate in upcoming activities. A brief meeting will be
held in conjunction with the event.
-more-
