Luecke, Mayor <br /> RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: <br /> MAYOR LUECKE'S OFFICE WEDNESDAY, JAN. 5, 2005 <br /> CITY CONTROLLER ACCEPTS NEW POSITION <br /> Mayor Stephen J. Luecke's Office has announced the resignation of City Controller Rick 011ett effective <br /> January 21, 2005. Mr. 011ett has accepted a new position as Chief Administrative Officer at the Culver <br /> Academies. 011ett was appointed City Controller on October 31, 2001. <br /> In accepting the resignation, with regret, Mayor Luecke commented, "For the past three years, Rick has <br /> been a valued member of my management team. He has not only provided keen fiscal oversight, but also <br /> offered important suggestions on delivering City services more efficiently and effectively." 011ett played a key <br /> role in securing the best financing for important economic development projects. He also participated on the <br /> negotiating team which reached a successful agreement with the Firefighters union last year. <br /> During his time as Controller, the City continued to be recognized for its financial reporting and budget <br /> process. "With Rick's leadership, we are improving our city website and expanding our ability to provide <br /> information and services electronically,' continued Mayor Luecke. I am grateful for his stewardship of the <br /> City's resources, for his assistance to Department Heads and Council Members and for his service to the <br /> people of South Bend. We wish him well in his new position at the Culver Academies." <br /> The Mayor has already initiated the process for selecting a new Controller. He has identified a list of <br /> individuals who are being contacted and he will also be accepting additional resumes. During the transition <br /> period, Liz Rowe, Director/City Finance,Tom Skarbek, Director/Budgeting & Financial Reporting, and Janice <br /> Hall, Director of Human Resources will share coverage and management of the Department of <br /> Administration and Finance activities. <br /> Mayor Luecke also noted that"I have been fortunate to have had two talented and dedicated public servants <br /> who have served as Controller during my time as Mayor. I will be seeking a third person who is similarly <br /> committed to keeping the City financially sound and accountable to the residents of the community.
