Luecke, Mayor
RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE:
OFFICE OF MAYOR LUECKE WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2005
Local Communities Invite Public to Participate in Water Quality Survey
The City of South Bend, in partnership with St. Joseph County, Ivy Tech State College and the Towns of
Roseland and Osceola is conducting a public survey to assess community awareness of water quality issues
and concerns. This information will assist in development of a Storm Water Management Plan that is consistent
with federal and state guidelines for protecting our rivers and streams. A significant portion of this plan will
address public education.
The surveys have been distributed by all of the entities using various methods. The City of South Bend has
included the survey in its Water Utility Bills which will be mailed throughout the month of January. Due to a
mechanical problem, some of the surveys were not inserted in the Water bills during the first few days of
January. Those who were missed in January will receive the surveys in their February bill. If you did not receive
a survey you can visit the City website at www.ci.south-bend.in.us to print a copy or call the Mayor's Office at
235-9261 to request a survey to be mailed to your home.
By completing the Water Quality Awareness Survey, you can help us design educational programs to benefit
the water quality in our community. The survey gives you the opportunity to tell us what you know about water
quality and storm water.
The City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, Ivy Tech State College and the Towns of Roseland and Osceola
encourage the public to participate in the Water Quality Awareness Survey for the St. Joseph County Area. You
can play an important role in helping our Storm Water Management Team educate the community on becoming
better environmental stewards as individuals and businesses.
