Luecke, Mayor <br /> RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: <br /> Office of the Mayor Thursday, August 18, 2005 <br /> South Bend Receives Budget Award <br /> The City of South Bend has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association of the United <br /> States and Canada (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2005 budget.The Department <br /> primarily responsible for this award, the Administration & Finance Department was also presented a <br /> Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation for their work and commitment to the highest principles of <br /> governmental budgeting. <br /> The GFOA award guidelines focused on four categories of assessment, which included how well the City's <br /> budget served as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. <br /> The Administration & Finance Department's documents had to receive a rating of "proficient" in all <br /> categories in order to be granted this award. <br /> The Government Finance Officers Association, with headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, is a nonprofit <br /> professional association serving 14,000 government finance professionals throughout North America. The <br /> GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in <br /> governmental budgeting. The awards recognize municipal government agencies who are pioneers in <br /> improving the quality of budgeting, and who serve as an example of excellence for other governments. <br /> For more information, contact Stephen J.
