City of South Bend Collecting Old Containers Page 1 of 1
0 'Building a 21St Century City "
Stephen I Luecke, Mayor
RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE:
Environmental Services September 9, 2005
City of South Bend Collecting Old Containers
Beginning Friday, September 16, 2005,the City of South Bend's Bureau of Solid Waste crews will
begin picking up old solid waste containers, every Friday, until the project is completed. The
collection is expected to take approximately 2-3 weeks.
Residents who would like their old containers removed are asked, to place them in the same location,
curbside or in the alley, as followed for regular trash pickup. Customers with curbside pickup may
also place their old container out on regular collection day and place a note (Please Take) on the
container.
Residents wishing to keep their old containers must store them in a garage or inside their yard, and not
leave them in the alley or at curbside. As a reminder, the new City ordinance requires all trash to be
collected in closed containers provided by the City.
The City of South Bend Environmental Services encourages customers to continue following the tips
on keeping their solid waste containers clean, trash bagged, lids closed and set out at 6:00 a.m. on the
regular scheduled day of pickup.
Mayor Stephen Luecke again thanks residents for their continued efforts to help keep South Bend a
clean and beautiful city.
Contact: Mikki Dobski, Communications & Spec.
