Mr. Gibney responded yes, that the City of Elkhart does decks which are less expensive and people have a greater sense of safety. Decks double the number of cars accommodated over surface parking. A deck would be provide room for about 140 cars which is a lot more than the number of rooms that would be developed there. We are open to the conversation about a deck without store fronts. Parking is needed. The difference between most other parking garages in town and a deck is that a deck would not have a roof. Cost for development per space is significantly less and in Elkhart on smaller sites there are series of decks and people do like them. They are attractive and people feel safer than being on a third or fourth floor because decks are open to the air. It could save money and probably provide income. Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by Mr. Varner and unanimously carried, the Commission accepted the proposal from Morris & Sons for roof repair at the LaSalle Hotel. approved maintenance for roof repair in the amount of $675 and $1370 for the carpet repair at the LaSalle Hotel. (2) Ratification of maintenance services at LaSalle Hotel. Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by Mr. Varner and unanimously carried, the Commission ratified maintenances at the LaSalle Hotel. (3) Proposal for environmental assessment and engineering services.
