2 - 61i <br />MEETING February 17, <br />1936 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of <br />Public Safety was held on Monday, <br />February 17, 1936, at 9:00 A. M. All <br />members were present. <br />Minutes of previous meeting were <br />read and approved. <br />Requisitions numbers 08879 to 08885 <br />were approved, also <br />claims <br />in the amount of 4380.00 from the following <br />suppliers. <br />Berman's Sport Goods Store 433.10 <br />He D. Co. 11.44 <br />The Sireno Co., Inc. 21.92 <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present: <br />Matters pertaining to the Fire Department were discussed and the <br />Chief reported that on February 11th a tractor and trailer belonging <br />to the Western Michigan Transportation Company of 317 East LaSalle <br />Avenue was being weighed on the South Bend public scales and that the. <br />trailer buckled. The driver, I in jacking up the load, threw all. the <br />weight on one end of the scales and broke a part of same which is now <br />being ordered for repair. The Board gave instructions to notify these <br />people that they will be held responsible for the cost of repairs and <br />the Secretary wrote them accordingly. <br />The Board took UP with the Chief claim of Epworth Hospital for <br />$66.75 for services rendered to Joseph Kujawski, who was injured at <br />the recent Green fire, and in accordance with former agreement asked <br />the payment with the understanding that the injured party his own <br />doctor bill. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief Lane present: <br />The matter of William Ortman and his payments to his family was <br />discuss I ed with him, in accordance with Court Order and the Controller <br />is instructed to deduct from his pay, beginning with February 15th, <br />three payments of §31.25 each to be paid to his wife, thereafter ten <br />payments of $30*00 each of which 425.00 is to be paid:to,his wife and <br />45.00 to William A. Bertsch, thereafter until further change or <br />modification made by the Court $25.00 to be paid to his wife. Officer <br />Ortman signed this agreement and the matter was reported to the <br />Controller. <br />The Chief brought up the question of telephone service and stated <br />he was not satisfied whereupon the Board authorized the installation <br />of three direct lines to the Police Department segregating the depart- <br />ment from the switchboard, one such line already being installed. <br />A revised traffic violation ticket was submitted for approval <br />and it was regularly moved, seconded and carried that this be adopted <br />and that the same be ordered in duplicate. <br />The Secretary brought up the ' matter that was referred to him by <br />George Hahn, requesting that the Street Car be asked to <br />display on their cars different colored lights to indicate the route <br />these cars travel. The Secretary has written the Street Car Company <br />asking for their re-action. <br />Official police bonds were approved in favor of the following <br />employees of the American District Telegraph Company supporting their <br />appointment as special police officers for one year: Norman F. Wiese, <br />Charles L. Anderson, Ivor Strombeck and George A. Brown. <br />.Police application of Boyd Joseph Nusbaum was received and <br />ordered placed on file. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present: <br />Mx. qualls submitted a report of fire alarms handled during the <br />month of January, showing a comparative record for same month for the <br />last ten years.
